Our South African research vessel, the SA Agulhas II, had her recent Open Day in Cape Town. The Open Day was held on 23 & 24 June and was, as the name suggests, open to everyone. Members of Landscape Processes in Antarctic Ecosystems, one of the NRF-funded projects that visits Antarctica for geomorphological research each year, was there. Read more on their experiences of the Open Day here.
Meanwhile, the Agulhas has just departed on her winter cruise to the Southern Ocean (Antarctic Winter Cruise 2017). Natasha van Horsten, a PhD in Earth Sciences (CSIR and the Department of Earth Sciences, Stellenbosch University) is on board. Have a look at pictures of the Stellenbosch & CSIR team before departure, as well as the ship departing port.
