The new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) in the European Union comes into effect on 25 May 2018. This means that as an APECS member, and through that an APECS SA member, you are affected by these regulations.
Why, you might ask? The APECS International Directorate Office is based in the EU (Potsdam, Germany) and APECS now has to ensure they are compliant with the new regulations as they affect the APECS mailing list. So you will either receive, or have already received, an email from APECS to confirm your membership. This email asks you to confirm a few things and to update your details to ensure that you want to continue receiving updates from APECS, regardless of whether you are in the EU or not.
If you do not re-confirm your membership, APECS (and APECS SA) will no longer be allowed to email you after 25 May and will have to remove you from the mailing list and delete your personal information.
So what must you do? Once you have received the email from APECS simply click on the button that says “I want to remain an APECS member” button and follow the instructions. If you would rather unsubscribe from APECS you can do this as well by clicking on the button and then clicking “unsubscribe” at the bottom of the form. This only takes a few seconds and can also be done from a mobile device: please take a moment and update your profile by 25 May. We’d love you to stay part of our family 🙂
