Bio: Prof Werner Nel is a Professor in Physical Geography in the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences at the University of Fort Hare. He is a member of the South African National Council for SCAR (Scientific Council for Antarctic Research) and the SA Delegate for Geosciences. He has been actively involved with the South African National Antarctic Programme since 1999, and he is the Principal Investigator of a NRF/SANAP funded project: Landscape and Climate interactions in the sub-Antarctic. He has been Chief Scientist for shore-based science on relief expeditions to Marion Island and Antarctica.
